Smoldering Serpent of Fire, coiled at the base of my spine,
Molting, a time to expire, dead cells cast off and left behind,
Reptilian dreams float to my brain, inject languid venom within,
Your taste in the air, shackled Eve in despair,
Heat emanates from your skin,
Shakti
Crucified, unclean, brought forth and now burning pure,
A week in exile, Persephone's eclipse,
Her gown it falls, falls to the floor
Flickering forked tongue of flame,
Lashing the minds of the chaste,
Try as they might it cannot be extinguished,
Though entombed, tormented, defaced
Reptilian dreams float to my brain, inject languid venom within,
Your taste in the air, shackled Eve in despair,
Heat emanates from your skin
Fall, writhe
Face cast off and discarded limbs,
I can feel it
Embers curl, black unhallowed whims,
I can feel it
Victus Vitae
I can taste it
Finis Vitae
Now I feel alive
Shakti, I call upon your power to quicken this flesh and blood machine,
Shakti, I defy you in your power to control this flesh and blood machine.

Spawned in 2008, Shabti are Maine’s premiere technical black/death metal formation, featuring members of Falls of Rauros, Obsidian Tongue, Panopticon (live) & Feral.
An eclectic but incredibly well-integrated blend of traditional death metal, melodeath, black metal, progressive, and even a bit of folk (with the added bonus of audible and tasty bass guitar). The album has a consistent, pulverizing momentum punctuated by the rare acoustic passage or catchy chorus/refrain. Overall an unbelievably mature first offering from an up-and-coming band to watch. Heaviest thing I’ve heard all year along with Altarage. Okay I’ve been listening to this record for the past two weeks and it just gets better and better. Dissonant grooves galore Jacob Ballance
